Montgomery County, Ohio — On June 5, 2025, at around 8:30 p.m., a chase started near Diamond Mill Road and Wolf Creek Pike after a Perry Township police officer tried to stop 46-year-old James Collins in a white GMC Sierra with no visible registration. A state patrol helicopter tracked the truck as it barreled down highways, tires shredded by stop sticks, with one passenger tossing lumber from the bed in an attempt to slow pursuing officers.
As Collins continued recklessly onto U.S. 35 and then I-75 southbound in the northbound lanes, troopers warned of the escalating danger seconds before the truck triggered a chain-reaction crash near Dryden Road. Police arrested all four occupants of the truck after they tried to flee the scene on foot. Among them was Thomas Downey, 49, who, along with Collins, now faces felony charges including vehicular assault and failure to comply. Collins and his three passengers, were all taken to local hospitals for minor injuries and later taken into custody. Several people from the other vehicles involved in the crash were also injured and taken to the hospital.
