Suspected Drunk Officer Responds to a 911 Call

Toledo, Ohio — On the night of August 23, 2025, a couple in Walbridge, Ohio, returned home and noticed something unusual: the door of their truck was wide open. Concerned that they may have been robbed or that someone could still be inside their house or vehicle, they called 911 to have police check the situation. Walbridge Police Officer Michael Ervin was dispatched to the scene. Instead of reassuring the couple, his behavior raised immediate red flags. They said he looked unsteady, slurred his speech, and at one point even stumbled and fell while approaching them. Alarmed by how impaired he seemed, the couple actually called dispatch a second time, this time not about the suspicious vehicle, but to report that the responding officer himself appeared drunk. Officers from other nearby agencies, along with Walbridge’s police chief, arrived shortly afterward. A portable breath test was given to Ervin, which showed a BAC of .168, more than double Ohio’s legal driving limit. Ervin was relieved of duty on the spot and fired from the department within days. He was later charged with several misdemeanors, including OVI, disorderly conduct, obstructing official business, and having a weapon while intoxicated.
