Modesto Police Officer Shoots Driver Who Accelerates Toward Him

Modesto, California — On Friday, August 8th, 2025, at approximately 10:06 a.m., a resident called 911 to report that someone had just driven by her home in the 1200 block of Boulder Avenue and fired a gun. The caller identified the suspect as her granddaughter's boyfriend, gave his first name as Jadon, later confirmed to be 19-year-old Jadon Sieng of Modesto, and described the vehicle as a black Acura. While still on the phone with the dispatcher, the caller said Sieng drove by again. The phone was then handed to Sieng's girlfriend who stated she believes shots were being fired at that moment. At 10:07 a.m., less than a minute after the call was entered, Modesto police officers were dispatched. At approximately 109 a.m., Officer Padilla arrived in the area. While driving on Boulder Avenue, just a half block from the original caller's home, he saw a black Acura parked on the side of the road. Officer Padilla stopped in the roadway, illuminated the Acura with his spotlight, and exited his patrol car. He held the driver, later confirmed as Sieng at gunpoint. At that moment, Sieng started the car, quickly accelerated toward Officer Padilla, and despite repeated commands to stop, Sieng continued forward, and an officer involved shooting occurred. Sieng's vehicle struck Officer Padilla and his left leg as it sped away southbound on Boulder Avenue. Officer Padilla fired a total of nine rounds during this incident. A Santaas County Sheriff Sergeant spotted Sieng fleeing southbound on Hatch Road and initiated a pursuit. Sieng ran a red light at Hatch and Morgan roads before losing control while attempting to turn southbound onto the Highway 99 on-ramp. He crashed into a guardrail, abandoned the vehicle, and ran down the freeway embankment towards the highway. Responding officers and deputies quickly established a perimeter. Given the belief that Sieng was armed and dangerous, the Modesto Police Department SWAT team was activated. Drones and the Stanislaus County Sheriff's air support unit were deployed to assist with this search. At approximately 1:35 a.m., the sheriff's air unit located Sieng hiding in the bushes in the highway median. Modesto PD SWAT officers used an armored vehicle to safely approach Sieng and take him into custody. SWAT officers immediately provided medical aid until paramedics arrived and took over his care. Sieng was found to have a non-lifethreatening gunshot wound to his left arm from the earlier shooting. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment and later booked into the Santaas County Jail for the attempted murder of a police officer and multiple other felony crimes. A search of Sieng's vehicle revealed a 9mm handgun on the driver's floorboard. Officers also recovered a loaded 9mm magazine in the bushes where Sieng had been hiding.
