Hammond, Indiana — On Thursday, May 8, 2025, at approximately 5:49 p.m., Chicago Police Officers responded to a person with a gun call in the 13400 block of S. Baltimore Avenue for a suspect, later identified as 50-year-old Joseph Navarro, wanted for an aggravated battery. Officers observed Navarro enter a vehicle. Navarro fled from the area and crashed his vehicle at Dearborn and Gostlin St. in Hammond, Indiana. Officers arrived at the location where they were fired upon and returned fire striking Navarro. Navarro was struck multiple times and was transported to St. Catherine Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The two officers were taken to a hospital for observation and were reported to be in good condition. No other injuries were reported, and a gun was recovered at the scene.
