PIT Maneuver Ends Chaotic Chase with Barefoot Shirtless Florida Man

St. Johns County, Florida — On June 2, 2025, a citizen contacted the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office in reference to a suspicious person at the St. Augustine Premium Outlets. A SJSO deputy located the suspect driving inside the mall area, unable to maintain his lane and driving the wrong way. At one point, the suspect threw trash out of the window. The deputy attempted a traffic stop, but the suspect continued driving, slammed on his brakes multiple times, and threw up his middle finger at the deputy behind him. Because of the suspects erratic driving and signs of impairment, deputies pursued the vehicle onto State Road 16. The suspect accelerated at a high rate of speed, driving in the opposite lane to pass vehicles and evade deputies, nearly causing multiple head-on collisions with other drivers. Deputies successfully deployed stop sticks, deflating the vehicles right tires, and used a PIT maneuver to stop the vehicle. The suspect, 27-year-old William Middleton, was arrested and charged with DUI, Reckless Driving, Fleeing and Eluding, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
