17-Year-Old in Stolen SUV Ends Police Chase in Rollover Crash

 

 
 
 Fayette County, Georgia — On January 21, 2026, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office posted a road closure and received several inquiries about the motor-vehicle accident. After receiving all the information on this case, we wanted to share the dash camera footage and details with you. The Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen vehicle out of Newnan that afternoon. After Lieutenant Akin heard the vehicle’s description, he was immediately on the lookout for the red SUV. At approximately 2:45 p.m., the driver drove past Lt. Akin and Deputy Sheriff Nelson near Brooks Woolsey Road and Antioch Road. Lt. Akin attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the vehicle refused to come to a stop. A pursuit ensued and reached high speeds of over 115 miles per hour. As the patrol shift was about to call off the pursuit, the vehicle ultimately rolled over around Brooks Woolsey Road and the Highway 85 Connector. The driver, a 17-year-old juvenile, had also been reported missing by the Newnan Police Department. The juvenile was removed from the vehicle and has no major injuries. The juvenile faces numerous charges, including: Stop sign violation, speeding, reckless driving, driving too fast for conditions, driving without a license, and giving a false name to an officer, among others. He was denied bond and remains in the Fayette County Jail.
